History of Beulaville

Located in Duplin County, Beulaville was home to several native tribes long before the arrival of Europeans. The last tribe to live in the area was the Tuscarora, who used the area now known as eastern Duplin County for a hunting ground. Several Tuscarora burial grounds can still be found throughout Duplin County, specifically in the areas surrounding Beulaville.

Early Scots-Irish and Swiss settlers arrived in Duplin country in 1736, but the town now known as Beulaville wasn't founded until over a hundred years later. In 1874 a trading post town sprung up out of necessity and for several years was a haven for moonshiners and traders of all backgrounds. The town was incorporated as Beulaville, named after the nearby Beulah Baptist Church, in 1915. All vestiges of moonshine and brawling have disappeared from the town, but the citizens are proud of their exciting history. To this day Beulaville remains the youngest town in Duplin County.
